Shin-Gundam Musou is named after the spin off series of Dynasty Warriors known as "Shin-Sangoku Musou" Since the original game was a fighter, when the current hack and slash game came out it was titled "True-Dynasty Warriors" however, abroad, the game was simple numbered as "Dynasty Warriors 2" Fans of the series know this is the reason behind the numbering issue. (The current Dynasty Warriors game in Japan is "Shin-Sangoku Musou 7" while overseas it is "Dynasty Warriors 8")
So why the new name for Musou Gundam?
The series took new steps in Dynasty Warriors Gundam 3. Instead of standard CG graphics the game used cell shaded animation. The series was introduced to new interactive fields, and a new partner system. A downside for fans of Gundam was that the history missions took a back seat to the cross over plot driven missions. With so much to consider, Koei and Bandai have decided to reboot the series instead of making another sequel.
